Reeves UK are an approved training centre for the DSC1 course, offering several courses throughout the year. The course is a basic introduction to deer stalking and management, covering areas such as identification, shot placement, hygiene, processing food into the human food chain, safety and basic rifle skills.
Why should you do the DSC1 course?
The DSC1 Qualification is now a minimum requirement on many permissions and stalking areas. It teaches you the basics of stalking - the kind of things that you should really know before you head out to take your first deer. You need to know these things to keep yourself within the law, to respect your quarry and for your safety and the safety of others.
Let's be very clear on this, the DSC1 is not a replacement for real experience in the field. It is a good basic grounding in species identification and the behaviour you need to employ when stalking; it can also enhance your knowledge on some of the more obscure legal requirements in stalking and teaches the very important aspects of health and hygiene; but! it wont make you a better shot, it wont stop you treading on a twig and it wont stop you getting out of your high seat after your first successful shot and ruining your chances of a second shot (something every new stalker does!).
Is the DSC1 a replacement for years of learning from a professional stalker? No, but for the beginner it is essential and the information it teaches should never be underestimated. Once you have it, then go and learn how to stalk from a professional stalker. We will be happy to start you on that path.
